Poster on board, 48 x 38 inches, framed, being a full-body portrait of Max Baer in boxing gloves and trunks, June 4, 1934, signed ("Max Baer") and inscribed: "To "Calgary Red" / Bet on me to knockout Primo Carnera for the Title. I am in shape this time. Gook luck on your car business, you'll be number one for General Motors ones day. / Your old pal, Max Baer / 6 - 4 - 34." A few words retouched, nail punctures, otherwise excellent. Inscribed only 10 days before he defeated Primo Carnera to become Heavyweight Champion of the World. 2. Pair of photographs, silver gelatin prints, 8 x 10 inches, framed, being portraits of Max Baer and Joe Louis together, 1958, signed and inscribed by both over their image, some fading to ink, else fine. 3. Photograph, silver print, 7 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches, no date, being a portrait of Gene Tunney in boxing gloves and trunks, signed and inscribed by Tunney to Larry Cameron, fine. 4. Poster on board, 34 1/2 x 36 inches, being a portrait of Max Baer, Cecil Hoffmann, and Jack Dempsey, October 18, 1963, signed and inscribed by Dempsey, Hoffman, and Max Baer's wife Mary Baer, excellent. 5. Photograph, silver gelatin print, 9 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches, framed, being an image of Joe DiMaggio, [1950s], signed and inscribed, inscription somewhat faded, else excellent. The group also contains a number of photographs including some historic boxing images, some signed, and many of Max Baer with various famous personages such as Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Becall, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez, Nat King Cole, Cab Calloway, Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey, and others, many of which are signed and inscribed by Baer. The group includes some personal items of Baer's as well, like a pair of leather and suede riding chaps decorated with the "MB" logo and engraved by his friends, a 14 carat gold money clip inscribed first to Baer, and from Baer to Cameron, as well as a pair of gold boxing gloves said to Baer's. Robert "Larry" Cameron was a Canadian Rodeo star, under the moniker "Calgary Red," who went on to become an automobile dealer, and later, the co-founder of Cameron Park. He befriended Max Baer in the 1930s and the two remained friends for the rest of Baer's life. Sometime in the 1950s, while Baer was working as an actor and entertainer, Cameron put Baer on the payroll to help bring in some high profile clients. Many of the signed photographs were a result of this arrangement - like the photographs of Baer and Jou Louis with the latter displaying a "Cameron Pontiac" shirt. See illustration.
