Catalogue Essay The Art Deco movement appeared just before World War I and was a potent combination of modernist style with fine craftsmanship and rich materials. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. It is no wonder that it was such a flourishing inspiration for the watchmaking industry. The desire to be modern driven by this movement encouraged watch designers to find new ways to indicate time and the jump hour indicator was one of the most coveted of all. Made in white gold, the square shape case of the present jump hour watch displays Art Deco style lugs whose design reminds of the one of the Chrysler Building. White gold applied Breguet numerals beautifully complement its vertical satin finish dial. Elegant, modern and sophisticated yet very masculine, this watch embodies the spirit of the Roaring Twenties, a period where design for men’s accessories was exploring new horizons.
