AK Sportscars Ltd started in the mid 1980's when Ken Freeman decided to build a kit car. Never one to do things the easy way, he spent 18 months making his own pattern and moulds. His good friend Alan Frew (the 'A' in 'AK'), who was in the fabricating business, produced the chassis. Although it started as a hobby, demand steadily grew until a decision had to be made whether to continue his glass fibre laminating business or go full time into kit manufacturing. Obviously the car won. Production slowly increased so sons Dan and Jon joined Ken and later, moving to new premises, they employed more people to the 'family business'. The company now produces around 40 units a year. Ken and wife Lynda retired in 2009 from the business, although they are both still involved with some aspects of the manufacturing process. Described by kit car magazine upon completion in 2006 as being ""the ultimate Cobra"", the standard of workmanship that has gone into the building of this car has to be seen to be appreciated. The specification is as follows; full cream Connelly leather with Wilton carpets, power steering, 18"" Hillenbrand alloys, 330mm ventilated discs with six pot AP racing callipers, twin Aston fuel fillers, twin side pipes, five speed Tremec TKO600 racing gearbox, small block Chevy motor with 501bhp built on an aluminium AK body. The immaculate silver coachwork contributes towards making this a truly stunning example. Built as a 'no expense' show car, the quality, beauty and incredible performance of this AK Cobra cannot be understated. Supplied with a V5 document and current MoT test certificate, this is an opportunity to purchase one of the finest tributes to the AC Cobra ever produced.
