2005 Mercedes-Benz SL55 F1 Lot Number135 RegistrationSN05 ZLX Chassis NumberWDB2304742F107966 Engine Number11399260042727 Odometer reading76,800 miles Estimate£28,000 - £35,000 Print details Send this to a friend 11 more images P30 AMG Performance Pack Comprehensive service history Cost in excess of £100,000 new The fifth generation of the legendary SL series of two door convertible sports cars was known as the R230. It featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof, a first for the SL class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997. The flagship models were built by AMG in the form of the SL55 and SL65, both highly tuned versions of the SL500 and SL600 respectively. The SL55 was powered by a mighty supercharged version of the 5.5 litre, V8 which produced 493bhp and achieved 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph (governed). In theory, the SL55 could reach 190mph if the car was derestricted but, for many, the acceleration and top speed is impressive enough in its standard form! The SL55 AMG is further enhanced by an F1 Performance Package offering a truly dynamic driving experience; this high performance version of the roadster is closely derived from the official FIA Safety Car for 2002. The enhanced dynamic characteristics relate to an extensive range of revisions to its body - engine cooling system, brakes and suspension. Larger cooling-air intakes and an additional engine-oil cooler ensure that the AMG V8 super-charged engine is maintained at the optimum operating temperatures during aggressive driving. The SL55 AMG with the Performance Package also draws on its Formula 1 counterpart when it comes to the chassis set-up, together with the choice of wheels and tyres. The Mercedes-Benz AMG engineers based the configuration on the set-up used by official FIA Safety Car driver Bernd Mayländer on all the F1 Grand Prix circuits. This example of the incredibly desirable SL55 with the F1 Performance Pack is presented in unmarked Brilliant Silver metallic paintwork with full Alpaca grey leather trim complemented by the full panoramic glass roof and is de-restricted to its maximum 186mph should you be brave enough. The cost, when new, for this car was £100,835 with options including panoramic glass Vario roof, keyless go, comfort seats, Parktronic, tyre pressure monitor and telephone pre-wiring with hands-free. It has six main dealer stamps in the original book pack followed by four further stamps the last with Hampshire Service Centre a Mercedes-Benz specialist in June this year. Also found in the history file is copy of the order sheets, MoT test certificates, Mercedes-Benz service sheets and an MoT test certificate valid until April 2022 coupled to two keys. We are informed the car drives with no known faults and is frighteningly quick. An incredibly collectable, comfortable and capable modern classic.
