Please Note: The registration plate shown in the photos is NOT sold with the vehicle, however, it is being sold by Historics at Brooklands. Please enquire for details. * The Mercedes-Benz R129 models were produced from 1989 through to 2001 and were sold under the SL-Class model name before being replaced by the R230 in 2001.The R129 was based on the shortened floorpan of the Mercedes-Benz W124 saloon and featured many innovative details for the time. The fifth generation of the legendary SL series of two door convertible sports cars featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof; a first for the SL class, although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997. The flagship models were built by AMG in the form of the SL55 (a highly tuned version of the SL500) with each engine individually hand assembled and signed by the technician. This stunning SL55 AMG is further enhanced by an F1 Performance Package offering a truly dynamic driving experience; this high performance version of the roadster is closely derived from the official FIA Safety Car for 2002. The enhanced dynamic characteristics relate to an extensive range of revisions to its body - engine cooling system, brakes and suspension. Larger cooling-air intakes and an additional engine-oil cooler ensure that the AMG V8 super-charged engine is maintained at the optimum operating temperatures during aggressive driving. The SL55 AMG with the Performance Package also draws on its Formula 1 counterpart when it comes to the chassis set-up, together with the choice of wheels and tyres. The Mercedes-Benz AMG engineers based the configuration on the set-up used by official FIA Safety Car driver Bernd Mayländer on all the F1 Grand Prix circuits. Registered in September 2004, this SL55 AMG was purchased by the current vendor one year later and has been lovingly cared for ever since. Having covered 31,900 miles from new, it has been maintained by Mercedes-Benz franchise dealer Hughes of Beaconsfield since 2005 to exemplary standards. Finished in Silver with grey leather trim, this is an opportunity to purchase a supercar which was in excess of £120,000 when new for a fraction of the price. Offered at no reserve, this car is not for the faint hearted.
