Title: 2 Vintage Photographs of Jack London, 1 Signed and Inscribed, with 1988 Jack London First Day of Issue Commemorative Stamp Author: ** Place: Publisher: Date: Description: 3 items together in triple window mat, framed and glazed. Includes original print of the Arnold Genthe portrait of Jack, approx. 6x7; 5x3 silver print photograph of Jack sitting on the ground outdoors; Jack London first day issue cover and stamp with May 3, 1988 cancel, approx. 9x6. Genthe photograph of London is inscribed by Jack: "Dear Blasphemer, From the 'Navigator', Jan. 3, 1912." "Blasphemer" was the nickname of F.G. Hancock, of New York City. The London's stayed with him for several weeks while Jack conducted a variety of business in the city prior to their departure on March 1 aboard the "Dirigo" a four-masted barque bound around Cape Horn to Seattle. Jack began writing his novel "The Valley of the Moon" on Jan. 3, 1912, the day he inscribed this photograph, and finished the book just before the Dirigo's arrival in Seattle on July 26. Lot Amendments Condition: Crease across bottom of signed photograph; else all appear very good. Not examined out of frame. Item number: 193071
