The 4973cc, R129 Mercedes-Benz SL500 carried on the tradition of the fast and reliable grand touring convertible from Mercedes-Benz. Born out of the earlier 500SL models, the new SL500 featured many new and innovative ideas for the time such as controlled electronic damping, automatically expanding roll over bar and a more modern multi link rear axle. A fully operating electric hood, windows, door mirrors and seats made this model easy and comfortable to operate. With powerful engines, stopping power was aided by anti-locking braking for reassurance. During 1995, a mild facelift was carried out to the model range that included revisions to the head lights, tail lights and several new features adopted as standard including side air bags, automatic climate control and ESP. The SL500 offered today is one of the facelift models and importantly includes the desirable panoramic hardtop together with its dedicated stand for when not in use. This SL is also fully loaded and includes amongst the many factory options; Zenon headlights, electronically adjustable and heated leather seats, automatic wipers and dipping rear view mirror, multi CD changer and remote boot release. A wind deflector makes driving more pleasurable with the hood down. We are advised by the vendor that this SL500 is kept in a heated de-humidified garage during the winter months and only used sparingly in the spring and summer for the occasional outing and holiday trips. It comes with its service history and build sheet as well as a current MoT test certificate and valid road fund licence. Taking into consideration its condition and mileage, this represents excellent value given the low estimate. Interested parties should note that the current registered private plate is to be retained and a replacement has been applied for from the DVLA.
