Land Rovers were inspired by the US-built Willys Jeep immediately after the war and by 1992, they claimed that 70% of all the vehicles they had ever built were still in use. Before the war, Rover had produced luxury cars which ceased to be in demand in the immediate post-war period and raw materials were strictly rationed to those companies building construction or industrial equipment. Rover's original factory in Coventry had also been bombed, forcing the company to move into a huge factory it had built in Solihull to construct aircraft. Re-badged models were introduced in 1983 as the Land Rover Ninety and the Land Rover One Ten, with the numbers representing the wheelbase in inches. The number was spelled in full in advertising and in handbooks and manuals with the vehicles also carrying badges above the radiator grill. These were available as station wagons, pick-ups and panel/van formats. This Land Rover 110 pick-up was put into service by the Ministry of Defence in 1995. The vehicle is powered by a normally aspirated 2.5 litre diesel engine coupled to the (sought after) R380 gearbox. This is one of a very rare, small batch of reconnaissance Land Rovers; they were used by elite forces acting as scouts for supply convoys due to their greater visibility. This Land Rover has had an additional roll cage, Wolf wheels and also one rear facing seat for a radio operator to report observations and return any incoming fire if the enemy were engaged. We are advised that the chassis, bulkhead, engine and gearbox are in very good order and the overall condition is good throughout with a correct odometer reading of 22,178km. An MoT test certificate valid until 17th July 2014 is supplied together with the military release forms allowing the Land Rover to be registered on civilian number plates.
