The Mini was manufactured by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and its successors from 1959 until 2000. The original is considered a British icon of the 1960's and its space-saving front-wheel drive layout allowing 80% of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers and luggage, influenced a generation of car makers. In 1999, the Mini was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century behind the Ford Model T. The Mini Mk. I had three major UK updates; the Mk. II, the Clubman and the Mk. III. Within these was a series of variations, including an estate car, pick-up truck, a van and the Mini Moke. The Mini Cooper and Cooper 'S' were sportier versions and were very successful rally cars winning the Monte Carlo Rally four times from 1964 through to 1967 - although in 1966 the Mini was disqualified after the finish, along with six other British entrants (including the first four cars to finish), under a questionable ruling that the cars had used an illegal combination of headlamps and spotlights. Initially Minis were marketed under the Austin and Morris names until Mini became a marque in its own right in 1969. The Mini was again marketed under the Austin name in the 1980's and was offered in a number of limited editions that usually included a special combination of trim and badging. This Mini 'British Open Classic' is an outstanding example of the many limited edition Minis produced. The full length electronic sunroof is a fabulous feature of this car along with the Minilite wheels and wider wheel arches and walnut dashboard complemented by the wood rimmed steering wheel. Other modifications are the aluminium door handles, peaked headlamp bezels and, perhaps most interesting of all, the twin exhaust pipes giving the car a lovely sporty sound matched to a 1275cc engine resulting in a great little car to drive. Finished in metallic racing green with beige half leather seats, this British Open Classic Mini is supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 21st May 2013. The fastidious vendor has enjoyed this car immensely and is only selling her due to lack of storage area and reluctance to leave the car out in the open; superb value given the estimate.
