Unique factory 'Farbmusterwagen' (colour sample car) 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Coupé Chassis no. WP0ZZZ96ZMS407838 •First registered to Porsche AG •Unique colour scheme •Manual transmission •Circa 149,000 kilometres from new •Registered in Austria Fußnoten Representing a major step forward in the development of Porsche's perennial 911, the Carrera 4 and Carrera 2 ('Type 964' in factory parlance) had been launched in 1989, the former marking the first time that four-wheel drive had been seen on a series-production model. Porsche had experimented with four-wheel drive on the 959 supercar, and many of the lessons learned from the latter influenced the design of the new Carreras' chassis and suspension. Face-lifted but retaining that familiar shape, the newcomers had been given a more extensive work-over mechanically, 87% of parts being claimed as entirely new. The pair shared the same 3.6-litre, 250bhp, air-cooled flat-six engine, while power-assisted steering (another 911 'first'), anti-lock brakes and a five-speed manual transmission were standard on both, with the Tiptronic auto 'box a Carrera 2-only option. Its new engine enabled the Type 964 to out-perform the old '3.2' yet still met the latest emissions regulations, top speed increasing to 162mph with 60mph attainable in 5.4 seconds (5.6 seconds Tiptronic). This manual transmission Porsche 911 Type 964 Carrera 2 Coupé was first registered to Porsche AG on 24th July 1991 having been ordered on 5th March of that year. The original Fahrzeugbrief is on file, recording the owner as Dr Ing HCF Porsche AG and the registration as 'S-LA 6706', and the car also comes with a Porsche Certificate confirming that the country of delivery/dealer was 'Germany, Porsche Werkswagen'. This Carrera 2 was retained by the factory as a 'Farbmusterwagen' (colour sample car) for marketing purposes. In addition to its striking and unique colour scheme of light blue metallic (39P - S2060-24 BASF) with matching leather interior, this particular car incorporates several other believed-unique features such as the steering wheel and the seam around the airbag. Its specification includes a Blaupunkt Bremen radio, electrically adjustable seats, green-tinted windscreen, air conditioning, electric sunroof, airbag steering wheel with leather trim, and 7"x17" and 8"x17" wheels. It is also worthwhile noting that this should be a Phase 1 model but has airbags, Cup wheels, and Cup mirrors, so could be a pre-production Phase 2. Currently displaying a total of 149,000 kilometres on the odometer, the car is described as accident free, without rust, and in very good condition. Accompanying documentation consists of the service booklet, Austrian registration papers, TüV valid until July 2020, and the complete approval history. VAT, Car Tax and Customs Duty at the standard rates will be payable on this Lot if the car remains in Switzerland. Bonhams is the guarantor of the customs duties and taxes clearance: consequently, this motor car cannot be released to the buyer or his transporter immediately after the sale.
