Laverda were late on the scene as motorcycle manufacturers, commencing production in 1950 from a manufacturing base which had previously focused on agricultural machinery. The 120˚ Jota was a stylish machine powered by a three cylinder, four-stroke engine with double overhead camshafts and a bore and stroke of 75 x 74mm, displacing 981cc. Power was transmitted through a five-speed gearbox, the whole being assembled within a double cradle frame and an elegant faring was standard. The Jota proved to be extremely tuneable with Laverda specialists Richard and Roger Slater developing this model still further with their remarkable Formula Jota 120˚. This standard production machine was first registered in May 1982 and is believed to have been in just one previous family ownership (a member of the exiled Russian Royal Family). It was acquired by the present owner in May 2000 since when it has been carefully maintained with mechanical work undertaken by Laverda specialists, Motalia Ltd. The bike is presented in red livery and is to original specification in all major respects. It comes with a dual pillion seat as well as the solo saddle illustrated. The mileage of 16,706 miles is believed to be correct and is commensurate with condition. This attractive enthusiast-owned machine is offered with current MoT to March 2005, road fund licence, a series of previous MoTs and a Swansea V5 registration document.
