Beschreibung:

The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was a luxury saloon car built from 1965 to 1980. It was the first Rolls-Royce to be constructed using a monocoque chassis, and to date has the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce. The original Shadow was 3½ inches narrower and 7 inches shorter than the Silver Cloud which it replaced, but managed to offer increased passenger and luggage space thanks to more efficient packaging made possible by its monocoque construction. Aside from a more modern appearance and construction, the Silver Shadow introduced many new features such as disc brakes instead of drum brakes, and independent rear suspension rather than the ageing live axle design of previous cars. The Silver Shadow featured a 172bhp 6.2 litre V8 from 1965-69, and an 189bhp 6.75 litre V8 from 1970 to 1980. Both engines were mated to a turbo hydramatic 400 transmission which came from General Motors except on pre-1970 righthand drive models which used the same 4-speed automatic gearbox as the Silver Cloud. The superb ride quality achieved in the Shadow was thanks to the innovative high-pressure hydraulic system with dual-circuit braking and hydraulic self-leveling suspension. In 1977, the model was renamed the Silver Shadow II in recognition of several major changes, most notably rack and pinion steering and modifications to the front suspension which improved handling markedly. This 1979 example with an extensive and enviable history file is as good as we have seen. It is an incredibly low mileage car, finished in what we consider to be the correct colour scheme for these luxury limousines of Metallic Black coachwork with contrasting Magnolia leather and black piping. The interior trim is presented to an excellent standard, as indeed is the entire car, rated by the vendor as 10/10 for engine, body, chassis, interior, transmission and paintwork. A reluctant sale to make room for ongoing E-type and Aston Martin DB6 projects, the vendor has priced this car very sensibly in the hope that it will be snapped up by a privateer for personal use. It is an imminently usable car and has great road presence. As you woudl expect, the car comes complete with V5C registration certificate, full MoT test certificate valid to March 2011, and subject to insurance, can be driven away from the auction in September.
