1979 MASERATI-TYPE 117 "BORA" COACHWORK BY ITAL DESIGN REGISTRATION NO. 42UKO CHASSIS NO. AM 117 816 ENGINE NO. 816 RED WITH BEIGE LEATHER INTERIOR. ENGINE: V8, 4,930CC, 280BHP AT 5,500RPM; GEARBOX: FIVE SPEED MANUAL; BRAKES: FOUR WHEEL DISC; SUSPENSION: INDEPENDENT ALL ROUND. LEFT HAND DRIVE. IN MUCH THE SAME WAY AS A WELL BRED RACEHORSE SHOWS EVIDENCE OF ITS BREEDING IN BOTH APPEARANCE AND PERFORMANCE, THE SAME COULD BE SAID OF A GOOD CAR. THE BREED, PERFECTED BY HARD WON RACING EXPERIENCE IMPROVED EACH SUCCESSIVE MODEL. SUCH WAS THE DEVELOPMENT OF MASERATI THROUGH ITS ORIGINAL BEGINNINGS IN THE OWNERSHIP OF THE MASERATI BROTHERS INTO THE YEARS OF THE ORSI FAMILY'S CONTROL, THE RACING EXPERIENCE OF THE MODENA FIRM HAD ALWAYS BEEN CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR FABULOUS ROAD CARS. THE BORA WAS NO EXCEPTION. PRODUCED FROM 1971 TO 1979 THE CAR MADE ITS DEBUT AT THE 1971 GENEVA SALON. ITAL DESIGN'S CREATION HAD PRODUCED THE SUPERBLY STYLED BODYWORK. THE MODENA WORKS HAD, IN 1969, REQUESTED THE SERVICES OF GIORGIO GUIDIARO TO PRODUCE A DESIGN OF VERY STRINGENT SPECIFICATION. THE CAR HAD TO BE OF UNDOUBTED SPORTING APPEARANCE: REAR ENGINED: EXCEPTIONAL IN ROADHOLDING, GOOD TOURING LUGGAGE ACCOMMODATION, AERODYNAMICALLY EFFICIENT AND ACCEPTABLY QUIET INSIDE. A TALL ORDER. NEVERTHELESS, WITHIN TWO YEARS SUCH A CAR WAS DESIGNED AND PRODUCED. 42 UKO IS ONE OF THE LAST BUILT AND COMES WITH THE DESIRABLE 4.9 LITRE SPECIFICATION ENGINE (THE EARLY CARS HAVING 4.7 LITRE ENGINES). THE CAR WAS IMPORTED TO BRITAIN IN 1988 AT WHICH TIME ITS RECORDED MILEAGE WHICH WAS BELIEVED GENUINE AT JUST UNDER 29,000 KM. THE CURRENT OWNER PURCHASED THE CAR IN FEBRUARY 1989 AND USED IT SPARINGLY FOR TWO YEARS BEFORE LAYING IT UP ON BLOCKS (THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS READING 30,188 KM). AS ONE WOULD EXPECT WITH A LOW MILEAGE EXAMPLE THE CAR SEEMS IN GOOD OVERALL CONDITION, AT SOME STAGE THE CAR HAS BEEN REPAINTED AND THE CURRENT OWNER WAXOILED THE UNDERNEATH SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE. THE BEIGE LEATHER UPHOLSTERY IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THERE ARE FIVE NEW TYRES FITTED. TIME PERMITTING PRIOR TO THE AUCTION THE OWNER WILL SERVICE THE VEHICLE AND OBTAIN A NEW M.O.T. THE BORA IS VERY MUCH IN THE SUPERCAR LEAGUE WITH TOP SPEEDS APPROACHING 175MPH, SUPERB ROAD HOLDING, A DELIGHTFUL FIVE SPEED ZF GEARBOX AND EXQUISITE LINES.
