Beschreibung:

This Honda CBX was acquired by the current owner in September 1982 and used as both a daily work-horse and weekend leisure transport. Shortly after purchase the bike dropped a valve at low speed and the engine was subsequently rebuilt by Bill Smiths’ Honda agency in Liverpool. The owner’s interest in competition motorcycling led to the CBX being campaigned extensively throughout the early 1980s in both sprints and hill climbs under the auspices of the National Sprint Association (NSA). In sprint configuration, an Alistair Laurie ‘dustbin’ fairing was fitted together with ‘aeroseat’, rear-sets, clip-on ’bars, dropped front forks and solid rear suspension to both lower the bike and decrease frontal area. In this guise, the CBX won the 1984 NSA ‘After Hours Trophy’ for the up-to-1300cc category, and took a class win (1st Unlimited Solo) at the Morgan quarter-mile sprint at Long Marston and 5th place in the Hill Climb Championship that same year. In 1993 the CBX was trailered to Arnold Wagners’ Ecomobile World Championships at Most in the Czech Republic, this being its last competitive outing before being retired from use. Following 15 years of dry storage, the bike was restarted earlier this year, and despite suffering some cosmetic deterioration of lacquered engine cases and seized brake pistons, has been returned to rideable condition, with all electrical components in perfect working order. A Metmachex alloy box-section swinging-arm is fitted, together with a Davida Moto front fork brace and longer prop stand (the original Honda swinging arm, centre stand and associated parts are included in the sale). The original exhausts likewise are included, although extensively rusted, together with sprint and hill climb fairings and brackets, clip-ons, rear-sets, lowered suspension bars, straight-through exhaust pipe and the original damaged cylinder head for spare/repair. In addition, the machine comes with old and new Swansea V5 registration documents, original owners’ manual, workshop manual and an extensive photographic record of its competition history. A three-bike trailer, complete with tailor-made CBX support brackets, spare wheel/brace and tie-downs, is available via separate negotiation if required.
