Lancia was founded on 29 November 1906 in by Vincenzo Lancia and his friend Claudio Fogolin; both Fiat racing drivers, as Lancia & C. The first Lancia, the 'Tipo 51' or 12 HP was constructed in 1907. Sadly in 1937 Vincenzo passed away and his wife and son Gianni Lancia took over the firm. They persuaded Vittorio Jano to join Lancia as an engineer; Jano had already made a name for himself by constructing some of the most successful racing Alfa Romeos of the time. The innovativeness, constant quest for excellence, the fixation of quality and complication of the construction processes together with the antiquated machinery meant that all cars essentially had to be hand-made. With little commonality between the various models, the cost of production continued to increase, whilst demand did not. The Lancia Beta Montecarlo is a mid-engined sports car which was produced from 1975 through to 1982. Cars from 1975 to 1978 were known as Lancia Beta Montecarlos and the latter cars produced from 1979 to 1982, simply as Lancia Montecarlos. Both series were offered in coupé and spyder versions and were constructed by Pininfarina. Total production amounted to 3,835 first series Beta Montecarlos and 1,940 second series. This is an opportunity to purchase a lovely Beta Montecarlo Spyder. Having covered only 44,000 miles, it is very unusual to see these cars in original condition as this one is. Mechanically, it is described by the vendor as excellent and the cosmetics have to be seen to be fully appreciated. Supplied with a V5 registration document, together with a valid MoT test certificate and finished in white with stunning red leather trim, this really is a splendid car to have fun with in the summer months ahead; surely these spirited sportscars can only appreciate in value.
