Classic Car Auctions says: The first of the 'S'Class luxury saloons..... In 1973 the 'Sonderklasse' range was expanded by the addition of the 450SE and the, 100mm longer, 450SEL. With 225bhp and a very luxurious interior these cars were the flagships of the Mercedes saloon car range. This, 1976, UK supplied, automatic. 450SEL (long wheelbase) with 89,000 miles indicated is, quite simply, in remarkable condition. The Silver paintwork appears excellent with good panel gaps and the chrome, brightwork, and wheel trims all sparkle. The interior is finished in Blue Velour and appears superb from the photographs. The vendor tells us that the car is “Effortless to drive and the engine is smooth with lots of power”. It has an MOT valid until August 2017 and the certificate is included in the car's “comprehensive” history file. This lovely old Mercedes has obviously been well cared for by its previous owners and with its comparatively low mileage, and in this condition, is a rare find.
