1975 ASTON MARTIN V8 LAGONDA FOUR DOOR SALOON Chassis No. L 12002/RCAC Maroon with beige leather interior. Engine: V8, two overhead camshafts to each bank, 5340cc, 350bhp; Gearbox: three-speed automatic; Suspension: independent front with wishbones, rear de Dion with coil springs all round; Brakes: four-wheel servo-assisted vented disc; power assisted rack and pinion steering. Right hand drive. The initial four-door Aston Martin Lagonda was the first of a group of closely related concepts, put forward to the company's top management by stylist William Towns in the mid-1960's, which included the DBS Aston Martin two-plus-two, and which it was intended would incorporate Tadek Marek's new vee-eight engine. Aston Martin company owner David Brown always with a penchant for the kind of high speed luxury that the Lagonda represented, was enthusiastic about the car and work went ahead on the project using a lengthened version of the DBS platform chassis. One was built in 1970 for Sir David's use and demonstrated the car's merits. Events conspired against it; a downturn in the market put a brake on new models from Aston Martin, the vee-eight engine took longer to bring to production status than anticipated. The result was a gestation period of some eight years before the Lagonda was officially launched in 1974. There was no doubt about the car's merit. In many eyes the lengthened wheelbase imparted an extra sleekness, compared with the more muscular proportions of the DBS. Inside all was space, luxury and fine leather. As befits a marque with a magnificent racing pedigree, handling was beautifully poised, the powered steering providing enough "feel" to satisfy the most demanding driver. Records state that just seven of these V8 Lagondas were built. Believed to be substantially original, this Lagonda was purchased by the vendor in 1991. The mileage showing now is 7563km which is quite possibly original to the car. Certainly the interior trim has a lovely original quality to it. It is understood that the car was resprayed some time ago. This is an extremely rare Aston Martin Lagonda that would make a fine addition to any motor car collection.
