II Lot Number 223 Registration OCR 555M Chassis Number LD24388 Engine Number LF022982HE Odometer reading 34,872 miles Estimate £16,000 - £20,000 Result Sold - £20,160 Print details Send this to a friend Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack, and also the pinion steering and driveline of that saloon. The power plant, though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of 3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors and the newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970. Most Stags were fitted with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox, as indeed is this one with electric windows, power steering and power-assisted brakes fitted as standard. Very desirable, the Stag is well supported through various clubs and specialist suppliers. This excellent, completely rust free 1973 Triumph Stag has the desirable manual gearbox with overdrive. The car was put into dry storage in 1989 where the car remained for the next 20 years. Since its revival from storage it was found that a head gasket needed to be replaced, the engine was removed and rebuilt, the lower half of the car repainted, new starter motor fitted and new bushes fitted to the suspension with the work being completed just over a year ago. Finished in Old English White with matching factory hard top and black interior this Triumph Stag is supplied with a V5C registration document and a MoT test certificate which expires in July 2017. This very early Mk. II still has several the Mk. I features including the original steel wheels with Leyland hubcaps. A superb, original example which still retains all of its original panels, one of the best on the market today.
