1973 Triumph Stag Lot Number245 RegistrationHLY 802N Chassis NumberLD23853 Engine NumberT25342 Odometer reading44,987 miles Estimate£10,000 - £13,000 ResultSold - £20,160 Print details Send this to a friend Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and pinion steering and driveline of that Saloon. The powerplant, though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of 3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors. The newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970. However, once in the hands of customers there were quibbles over build quality and engine maladies. Although Triumph itself failed to fully resolve the issues, independent specialists have, and well sorted Stags are now the rival to the Mercedes-Benz SL they were always intended to be. This car was originally registered in Ireland and then re-imported back into the UK in 1975. It has undergone a number of renovations and is reported to be a pleasure to drive. The engine has bigger valves which, when combined with the stainless exhaust, gives the original Triumph V8 engine a most unique sound and it has the desirable and rare manual gearbox with overdrive. There is a full file containing all the information and photographs from the renovations, all of which were carried out by Stag specialists and top quality finishers and also an original Triumph Stag leather handbook. This Stag also comes with its original factory hard top, which is rare. Presented in Sapphire with cream interior and a black hood which is probably the best colour combination, this looks lovely and will bring a smile to anyone’s face. The health and safety of both our customers and team remains the utmost priority, we are therefore operating to Government guidelines throughout viewing and auction day.
