Once in a while, a special motorcar turns up that not only reveals many surprises about it but also says something regarding its owner and builder. This Alfa Romeo GTAm Evocation started life as a standard 2000 GTV and was discovered in a somewhat poor state. A decision was made to build the car in the style and colour of the Toine Hezemans 1970 European Touring Car Championship winning car. A nut and bolt restoration was carried out between 2013 and 2015 and, although a summary of the works is listed here, this is by no means exhaustive. Mechanically, the car has been built to a high specification that includes a fully stripped, soda blasted and rebuilt engine ported and polished with fast-road camshafts, line ported inlet manifold and rebuilt 40DCOE Weber carburettors, stainless-steel exhaust system, a high output alternator and a new radiator with twin adjustable high output cooling fans. The suspension has been completely rebuilt, uprated and lightened. The brakes have been rebuilt using stainless steel pistons to the calipers, copper brake lines and stainless-steel braided flexible hoses. A bespoke pedal box is coupled to the Wilwood twin master-cylinders creating a dual circuit and biased system. Drilled and grooved brake discs all around are aided by the Ferrodo 2500 brake pads. The gearbox and final drive assembly have been stripped, inspected and replacement bearings fitted where required. The battery has been re-positioned into the boot area where the bespoke fuel tank and Facet fuel pump are also fitted. The interior invites the driver and passenger into a cabin that has been finished to the same exacting standard as the rest of this extraordinary motor car. The front bucket and rear seats have been covered in leather and Alcantara with the Alfa Romeo logo embroidered into the headrests at the front. The headlining (inclusive of the rear roof recess), parcel shelf, door cards, dashboard and kick plates are also trimmed in Alcantara. A full roll cage is fitted but importantly, this does not intrude or detract from the internal experience. Various gauges and switchgear enable the driver to remain informed and control the different services. Structurally, the bodyshell was completely stripped and sand blasted. The panel work included a smaller back panel, new floors, a bespoke boot floor, composite GTAm wings, bonnet, boot lid and scuttle panel. In addition, having had a sunroof, the roof was replaced and rivets inserted into the gutters to replicate the GTAm of the period. All further repairs were butt & seam welded whilst the shell was also seam welded and sealed for additional rigidity and strength. Externally the GTAm is fitted with new headlights, indicators, number plate plinth, GTAm number plate lights, rear light lenses and polycarbonate side windows and rear screen. Finished to a high standard in Yellow Ochre with a Hezemans decal pack applied, the car is further complemented by a set of 13" GTAm replica wheels fitted with new Avon 215/45/13 tyres. The vendor informs us that every nut and bolt has been replaced with most being made of stainless steel. An inspection of the undersides reveals a finish that replicates the standard of the upper sides confirming that no attention to detail has been spared in any department. This 1972 UK registered righthand drive Alfa Romeo has an MoT test certificate valid until June 2016 and has Historic road fund licence status. A comprehensive detailed photographic record of the restoration plus a file of invoices accompany this extraordinary motor car. Potential purchasers are encouraged to view this file and appreciate the details such as the riveted roof, the metal on the brake pads being painted green as per the original cars and the grey stitching upon the dashboard matching the stitching on the Momo Prototipo steering wheel; just some of the finer points that go to make up this very special Alfa Romeo indeed and especially as it is offered at 'no reserve'.
