These hand built luxury cars were manufactured in Stuttgart from 1965 through to 1972 with further production continuing in 1973 in North America only. The 280 SEL was offered with a range of engines starting with the 2.8 litre straight six, 3.5 litre V8 and the 4.5 litre V8 (only available in North America). The line was an update of the predecessor W111 and W112 fintail saloons. When thinking of a classic Mercedes-Benz, this is often the model that springs to mind with its stacked headlights and curvaceous bonnet proudly boasting the Mercedes-Benz badge mounted on top of the large radiator grille; it is a true classic saloon driven by the wonderful V8 engine that delivers enormous amounts of power and torque. We are delighted to offer this lovely Mercedes-Benz 280 SE that was originally sold in Jackson, Mississippi, USA and registered there on 1stJuly 1971 and imported into the UK in 2015 and UK registered on 16thSeptember 2016. The accompanying file reveals an interesting look at the American automotive history and includes the original handbooks, certificate of entitlement and receipts. Since arriving into the UK, this has undergone a restoration by one of the UK’s leading Mercedes-Benz specialists. The works included, repairs to the coachwork, although, we are informed, that it arrived in very good order, mechanically overhauled with a large amount of new parts used and a new interior. The result is a splendid example of the marque and with the 4.5 litre 280 SE not available in Europe. We are also informed that this 280 SE will arrive at the sale with its afore mentioned history file, its UK V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate. This truly magnificent, powerful and graceful automobile is a rare offering especially given its very tempting estimate.
