* Elverude-built 2-liter motor * Estimated 225bhp * Close ratio 5-speed gearbox * ZF limited slip differential * Porsche COA included * Documented 911S * A proven class winner It would be difficult to name another automobile design that has amassed as successful a racing history as Porsche's evergreen 911. Introduced as the Type 901 in 1964, it was a winner right out of the box, with a privately-owned car winning its class at Daytona, even before the factory's own cars were ready. Early 911s were also winners at the Monte Carlo Rally, Marathon de la Route, and countless other venues, and variants would go on to dominate GT grids around the world. The 911 was designed to replace Porsche's four-cylinder 356 series, being larger and more powerful. The 911's basic air-cooled overhead-cam, dry-sump lubrication flat-six engine design began with two liters of displacement and 130 horsepower, and has been steadily upgraded over the past 4 ½ decades to twice that displacement and almost twice the output, with some racing variations capable of a thousand horsepower in turbocharged form – truly a magnificent engine design. This beautifully-prepared "B"-series 911S coupe presents a great opportunity to go vintage racing with a proven class winner. Originally built up from a very nice street car in the early 1990s for ICSCC CP1 and SCCA Vintage competition, it enjoyed a very successful career. The current owner, famed Northwest racer Monte Shelton, had his engine expert Dick Elverude build a non-original but period-correct motor to SOVREN vintage racing specifications. The engine displaces 1991cc plus a legal .040 overbore on J & E pistons. With 11.5:1 compression and factory Bosch mechanical fuel injection, the motor produces an estimated 225 hp, more than enough to move this relatively light coupe at impressive speeds. The original 901 gearbox has been replaced with a sturdier Type 915 with a close-ratio gearset and steel synchronizer rings. The differential is a ZF limited slip. Brakes are from a 930 Turbo, and factory Fuchs alloy wheels are used. The rest of the suspension has been suitably upgraded. The rebuilt engine has but one SCCA Regional vintage race, and that was for testing purposes. According to the vendor, this car has never failed to finish a race. The tub of this 911S is very clean, with excellent paint and graphics. It features a full rollcage, a high-backed racing seat from Joe's Racing Products, and racing seatbelts. The instrument panel is dominated by a 10,000 rpm tachometer, the 911's standard oil temperature, level, and pressure gauges, as well as two additional gauges added beneath the dashboard. The interior has been gutted for competition with lightweight door panels installed. Plastic quarter windows are used, and there is a fire suppression system mounted. This 911S has a current racing logbook, as well as a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity included in the sale.
