The lead designers were Paul Bracq and Béla Barényi who created its distinctive, patented, slightly concave hardtop which inspired the 'Pagoda' nickname. The model was manufactured from 1963 through to 1971 and boasted an in-line straight six engine with multi-port fuel injection. The larger and more popular capacity 280 (2.8 litre) was introduced in 1967 and remained largely unchanged until 1971. This lefthand drive automatic Mercedes-Benz 280 SL resided in New York prior to it arriving in the UK in 2013 and has only one recorded keeper since importation. Upon arrival, the car was fully modified for UK homologation and subsequently, in October 2014, some £5,500 was spent at Roger Edwards along with four new steel wheels purchased in November 2014. Finished in a very desirable colour scheme of blue with a matching dark blue interior and a contrasting white removable roof, this car is supplied with a UK V5 document; all UK taxes have been paid, old MoT test certificates as well as a current MoT test certificate valid until 2018 as well as its original Becker warranty booklet and service booklet are present.
