Beschreibung:

1968 MERCEDES-BENZ 280 SL CONVERTIBLE WITH SOFT & HARD TOP Chassis No. 11304412003681 Red with tan leather interior. Engine: six cylinder, overhead-camshaft, Bosch fuel injection, 2,778cc, 170bhp; Gearbox: four speed automatic; Brakes: four wheel servo assisted disc; Suspension: independent front and rear. Left hand drive. The Super Leicht series of Mercedes-Benz sportscar began in the late 1950s with the 300 SL and 190 SL. In 1963 both were replaced by the wider and more angular 2.3 liter 230 SL which grew in engine size to 2.5 liters and in late 1967 was increased to 2.8 liters. Both the latter types had four wheel disc brakes. The 280 SL remained in production until the spring of 1971, at which time 23,885 had been built - more than all its sporting predecessors except the 190 SL. A new shape was adapted for the 350 SL of 1971, but this car was a rather different concept with an ultra smooth V8 engine, rather than the straight six 280 SL. Many experts feel this to have been the last true Mercedes-Benz sports car. This well presented SL was subject to major restoration in 1985, including work on the chassis and floor panels, since which time it has covered only 35,000 miles. In 1994 additional restoration work, both cosmetic and mechanical, was carried out, with bills totalling in the region of $6,500. This good driving car is offered with both a black soft top and a hard top, as well as factory fitted air conditioning.
