Synonymous with the swinging `60s and the hit TV Series Inspector Morse, the Mk. II was undoubtedly the most admired Saloon to emanate from Jaguar's hallowed Browns Lane factory. Featuring notably slimmer roof pillars than its Mk. I predecessor, the immortal Mk. II was as airy on the inside as it was elegant on the outside. The interior was quintessentially British with its sumptuous leather-covered seats, polished wood facia and door cappings, extensive instrumentation and impressive row of auxiliary toggle switches. These cars punched well above their weight. Equipped with either a 3.4 litre or 3.8 engine, the Jaguar was capable of sprinting to 60mph in as little as 8.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 125mph - small wonder that it was the first choice of both bank robbers and the police of the period! This lovely 1968 Jaguar Mk. II 340 Saloon with the manual and overdrive gearbox, was the subject of a two year complete restoration which was started in 1997. Purchased by the vendor in 2009 when the car had covered 68,132 miles from new, he has added, over the last five years, a further 3,268 miles to the clock. This Mk. II has been fully maintained since the restoration and recent work carried out includes fitting a stainless steel exhaust system and replacing the points, condenser and rotor arm to the distributor. It is finished in blue with a blue Wabesto sunroof and blue leather interior. It is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in September 2015 and a file containing old mot test certificates, invoices and photographs.
