1968 Jaguar E-Type Series I½ Roadster (4.2 litre) Lot Number 202 Registration BBH 8F Chassis Number 1E1973 Engine Number 7E1456-9 Odometer reading 88,358 miles Estimate £90,000 - £100,000 Result Sold - £86,240 Print details Send this to a friend The Jaguar E-Type was manufactured between 1961 and 1975 to create a combination of good looks, high performance and competitive pricing. Established as an icon of 1960's motoring and a great success for Jaguar, more than 70,000 E-Types were sold during its lifespan. The Series I was introduced, initially for export only, in March 1961, with the domestic market launch coming four months later, in July of that year. The cars at this time used the triple SU carburettor, 3.8-Litre, six cylinder XK engine from the XK150's. The first 300 cars built had flat floors and external bonnet latches and are considered to be rare and more valuable. After that, the floors were dished to provide more leg room and the bonnet latches moved inside the car, whilst underneath the bonnet, the engine size increased to 4.2 litres in October 1964. This splendid matching numbers and original UK righthand drive roadster, is presented in red with black leather having retained its original interior, seats and hood. The car had a major rebuild in 1984 which included the engine and gearbox; the car has only covered a mere 8,439 miles since then. Since these works were undertaken, there have been various works carried out; in 1994 new differential oil seals and handbrake pads were fitted and in 2000, new rear brake callipers. In 2001 and 2002, new rear brake discs and new rear bumpers together with rear exhaust tail pipes were fitted; electronic ignition was fitted in 2006. An overhaul of the brake system was carried out in 2016 with a new master cylinder fitted together with Zeus rear brake callipers. The car comes supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 31st May 2018, together with the previous MoT’s dating back to 1984. Owned by the current vendor for the last 25 years, this Jaguar E-Type has been well cared for throughout his stewardship.
