On the road, the T-Series afforded its owners the advantage of an eye-line higher than that of most other cars giving its occupants a commanding view of their surroundings while electrically adjustable seats ensured unrivalled comfort. It soothes its driver like no other car. In fact, the move by Rolls-Royce and Bentley to unitary construction meant that, by the mid-1960s, the market for traditional coachbuilt automobiles had been severely curtailed. Of the many firms trading pre-war, just two; James Young and the now combined firm of H J Mulliner, Park Ward Ltd were left to meet the though these might be more accurately termed conversions rather than 100% bespoke creations. Demand for these exclusive models was strong right from the start, despite a hefty premium that priced them at 50% more than a standard four-door Silver Shadow or T1. Thought to be one of only 41 ever made, this super-rare T1 convertible benefits from coming from the Bentley factory in its converted state. It was red originally but was changed to its current elegant Forrest Green colour in 1993. Meticulously maintained by its current owner, 7383TU is reported to drive superbly and has been looked after with scant regard to expense coming, as it does, with a considerable history file. It has been the subject of a full mechanical and body restoration in 2014-2015 by P.T. Classics of Hatfield Peveral and the interior still looks fresh. The suspension has been upgraded to ‘compliant’ T2 set-up and it also benefits from colour-coded three-point seat belts to both front and rear. If any proof was needed as to the care and attention taken on this car, simply raise the bonnet,the sight that meets you is unusually good. Clearly in superb condition, clean and with upgraded ducting, when running, the feedback is equally reassuring.
