Beschreibung:

1966-9 Gibson Johnny Smith JSDN Serial #:800765, with the orange "Union Made" Kalamazoo label. This is the sought after double pick-up blonde model. It has a scale of 25", a nut width of 1 3/4 and measures 17" across the lower bout. It has a hand carved, book-matched solid spruce top: figured tiger maple sides and neck: carved book-matched maple back and ebony fingerboard with split block inlays and a bone nut. The fingerboard and 'split diamond' head-stock inlays are mother of-pearl. There are 7-ply body bindings, 5-ply head-stock inlays, 3-ply fingerboard and back bindings, as well as bound f-holes. The large 'tortoise' pickguard also has 5-bindings. The head-stock carries the Gibson logo, 'split diamond' inlay and the truss-rod cover with the 'Custom' imprint. The gold-plated hardware shows normal playing wear, and includes the distinctive engraved 'Johnny Smith' humbucking pick-ups with a mini-jack mounted under the pickguard. The adjustable ebony bridge has the pearl inlays inset into the base. Designed by Johnny Smith in 1961 as his signature instrument it closely followed the proportions of his favourite D'Angelico guitar, including design aspects like a wider nut and fingerboard - 1 3/4" at the nut - a classic X-braced top, a 25" scale and it introduced for the first time a 'floating' humbucker pick-up. The resulting instrument, with its updated design features became a favourite jazz instrument renowned for its broad tonal response, playability and sheer good looks, the result of subtle choice in the design. With both the blonde finish and the double floating pickups, this is a very collectible and playable example of a Gibson guitar at their peak. Condition: This is an excellenbt, virtually mint, original condition, in its original black Gibson case with gold plush interior and extra accessory canvas case cover. The gold-plating has signs of normal wear and there is a slight spot of crystallisation on the pickguard, other than that it is an excellent playing condition.
