Beschreibung:

Launched in 1962, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III and its Bentley S3 equivalent employed the 6.2-litre aluminium-alloy V8 engine first introduced in the Silver Cloud II, though with larger carburetors, new distributor and raised compression ratio and came with a four-speed GM derived automatic gearbox as standard equipment. Most obvious among many changes from the preceding models were the adoption of four headlamp lighting, the absence of sidelights from the wing tops, and a slightly lower radiator shell. Inside there was improved accommodation with separate front seats and increased room for rear passengers. Notable as the last mainstream Rolls-Royce to employ a separate chassis, the Silver Cloud III remained in production until superseded by the unitary-construction Silver Shadow in late 1965. The Cloud represented a supremely elegant design and is often regarded as the last true Rolls-Royce. Produced late on in the production run, this fine example of a Silver Cloud III; certainly the one to own; spent many years in the USA before returning to England. Finished in a striking combination of red over black and presented in good overall condition, it has covered 121,000 miles in its 47 years; a mere trifle and representing just 2,500 miles per year. It is reported to drive beautifully and in complete silence with soft, supple suspension and superb oil pressure. The gearbox changes seamlessly, we are informed, in line with the 'no expense spared' attitude of the owner. Internally, the leather has been replaced with the correct red leather trim and matching carpets, the woodwork is excellent and this high quality example also benefits from picnic tables fitted to the front seat backs. An exceptional motorcar with a fabulous pedigree.
