1965 Porsche 912 Lot Number197 RegistrationKBY 236C Chassis Number450455 Engine Number830320 Odometer reading6,043 miles Estimate£42,000 - £48,000 Print details Send this to a friend Contact us 9 more images A very early Porsche 912 barnfind The engine has just been rebuilt although not fitted to the car Possibly a Porsche test car although not confirmed Porsche design has always been superb and the transition from the much-loved 356 to the 911 was a natural evolvement and much welcomed. It was more powerful however and, as a result, significantly more expensive. It was, therefore, decided to introduce a transition model, the 912. This had the same monocoque chassis as the 911 including independent front torsion bar and trailing arm rear suspension and all-round disc brakes but came with the flat four engine from the 356. Well balanced and nimble, the 912 won Car and Driver's 1967 'Reader’s Choice' poll for its class. Its good reliability also made it a popular choice for motorsport teams and a rally prepared 912 won its class in the 1967 European Rally Championship. This Porsche 912 is a barnfind project and one that the knowledgeable vendor does not have the time to complete unfortunately. The engine has been removed and fully rebuilt, both the engine and gearbox will not be refitted to the car prior to auction but will be on display at the auction arena. Finished in Barley Blue with black interior. Porsche aficionados will note that this is a very early car and it is thought, although not confirmed, that this may well have been a car Porsche used for testing. It was manufactured on 12th May 1965 with production starting barely a month earlier. It certainly bears the hallmarks of such a car. The dashboard has an oil gauge, factory fitted, which it would not normally have. There are hooks under the front bonnet where it looks like a long-range fuel tank was strapped in. This left hand drive 912 was originally registered to a German although it is now UK registered and comes with a V5 document together with some additional documents, including the receipt for the engine rebuild, this could well prove to be a very exciting project for an enthusiastic buyer.
