The first production Mustang rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9, 1964 and was introduced to the public at the New York World's Fair on April 17, 1964. It was, and remains, one of the most successful product launches in automotive history. The Mustang sold over one million units in its first 18 months on the market and its legend lives on with revised models still in production today after 43 years. Acquired by the vendor in 2009 from the well-respected 'Mustang Workshop' in Fleet, Hampshire, this completely straight example underwent an extensive restoration sometime prior. From the extensive history file, it would appear that Interstate Imports initiated the works in 1998 with two more tranches of attention first from The Valley Gas Speedshop in Berkshire in 2006 and, more latterly in 2010/2011, by The Mustang Workshop. A comprehensive file of paperwork exists with details of this and much more of the attention lavished upon it over the years. A factory option at the time was the 'Rally Pac' which included two extra dials on the steering column and braces within the engine bay and features on this car. It also benefits from an extra tachometer, a voltmeter and an oil pressure gauge which reads, incidentally, a very healthy and steady 80psi when hot. The engine is a period 1965, 289ci unit with the original 'Double Pumper' carburettors replaced by a set of four barrel Holly's and Kenlowe fan. A 12cd interchanger has been fitted to the boot as well as electronic ignition and power steering added to make driving in 'Lil' ol' England' easier.
