This beautifully executed 250 GTO recreation is based on an original matching numbers, righthand drive 330 GT, the aim being to create an accurate copy of the only right hand drive 4.0 Litre five speed 250 GTO that Ferrari built for Le Mans. Completed in 1993, the chassis was shipped to Italy where it was shortened and converted to GTO specification and then galvanised. The body was also crafted in Italy at the same time, constructed by hand in aluminium and then returned to the UK to be fitted by marque experts Moto Technique. The extensive specification of this car includes a number of correct GTO parts, the engine is fitted with GTO camshafts, roller rockers, high compression racing pistons, oversized stainless steel valves and specialist head porting. As per the original cars, six twin choke downdraught Weber carburetors are fitted, supplied by Weber and tuned on their own rolling road, achieving 315bhp at the rear wheels. The five speed gearbox is mated to an up-rated GTO specification limited-slip differential that was supplied by GTO veteran David Piper, he also supplied the oversize pistons for the original style Dunlop brakes. The suspension has been setup for competition and features up-rated springs, adjustable Koni dampers and front and rear anti roll bars running on correct 7'' front and 8'' rear Borrani wire wheels. Further specification includes a dry sump lubrication system by Bob Houghton, DK Engineering pedal box assembly and Terry Hoyle supplied inlet manifolds, aluminium fuel/oil tanks and a stainless steel exhaust system. An original 400mm GTO steering wheel is fitted and the gauges are in the style of the originals, racing harnesses adorn the interior as does an FIA specification roll cage. This car has seen light use on the race track and has proved to be very competitive, achieving a number of wins and podium finishes in the events it has entered. Driven by Ferrari aficionado David Piper and well known historic racers Gary Pearson and Martin McGlone, all of whom considered the car to be well prepared and a joy to drive. Fully UK road registered and eligible for a number of racing events, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a well sorted and accurate GTO tribute for a fraction of the price of an original car.
