Registration: CLL 821B Chassis Number: 6015 Engine Number: 6501 Number of cylinders: 12 CC: 3967 Year of Manufacture: 1964 RHD/LHD: Right Hand Drive
An original UK RHD car. (1st. Aug.1964). One of only 44 UK cars produced 3,967cc SOHC V12 Engine, 3 Weber Carburetors, 300bhp at 7,000rpm, 4-Speed+Overdrive Classically finished in Blue Sera with Nuvola blue hide Covered only 54,000 miles. Extensive mechanical overhaul by Neal Lucas during Feb. 2017 Original 'Buff' Logbook, Original Modena invoice. Correspondence between Col.'Ronnie' Hoare and John Coombs The Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Series I made its debut at the Brussels Salon in January 1964, proceeding its earlier ‘250 2+2 GTE' and ‘330 America' cousins. The ‘Series I' was much more than a re-engined 250, it was a bolder, more distinctive incarnation in both looks and performance. Pininfarina was once again entrusted with the styling, their vision of Ferrari's evolution drew muse from the cars' predecessors, yet included some more daring design elements. A sharper nose and tail, a wide grille, and the espousal of a characteristic quad headlight arrangement, all of which reflected the tastes of Ferrari's most important export market, the USA. Although some criticised its styling, the 'Series I' four-headlight 330GT has become truly evocative of 1960's fashion, lauded both for its individuality and Pininfarina's purity of design. The fantastic Gioacchino Colombo designed high output V-12 engine was fitted to all 300GT series and produced an impressive 300bhp, adorned with triple Weber carburettors, this combination taking the vehicle from 0-100km in an astounding 6.3 seconds, making it the fastest road-going Ferrari of the time. Offered here is one of only forty-four, UK-delivered RHD Ferrari 330 GT Series I coupes finished in Blue Sera (20.264) and Nuvola (VM3015) blue hide interior. It was delivered to Maranello Concessionaires in July 1964 when the import was handled by Colonel RJ ‘Ronnie’ Hoare head of F.English Limited, the Ford dealer on Poole Road in Bournemouth. Indeed, the history file contains a lovely record of copies of letters initially with Coombs of Guildford (John Coombs) ordering the Ferrari from F. English Ltd. in October 1963 on behalf of its first owner, Cecil Lewis of Harley House, Marylebone, London N.W.1 Further correspondence between the two companies continued until delivery to Mr Lewis in August 1964. Also contained in the history file is the original Ferrari Modena invoice to Maranello Concessionaires on the 7th July 1964 confirming the specification and outstanding balance of £5,150.00. This early record makes fascinating reading between two heavyweights of the day, John Coombs and Colonel ‘Ronnie’ Hoare. The history file contains a record of the previous owners and expenditure whilst in their care with various invoices up to ownership by our vendor. Tony Willis, the archivist for Maranello confirmed that factory records identified an engine change at some time with engine number 6501 fitted. Today, this rare right-hand drive 330, with its elegant understated lines, presents in great condition as a result of an earlier restoration and, more recently, mechanical work (8-2-2017) by renowned specialist Neal Lucas. The heads have been converted to run on unleaded fuel. It will come a full MOT. Enzo Ferrari was famously reluctant to drive his own products around, although he naturally test-drove every model, but he eventually settled on the 330GT, declaring it his "favourite car" and refused to be parted from it for years. This venerable, 1960's GT, with exceptional early history and recent sympathetic attention, is a most desirable classic Ferrari with timeless appeal and, sensibly guided, is considerably more approachable than some of its flashier siblings.
