The ultimate in American automotive chic during the early 1960s, first-design Lincoln Continental 4-door convertibles from 1961-1963 are increasingly commanding collector interest. Elegantly simple, these Lincolns, developed from an Elwood P. Engle concept, were a complete departure from the gargantuan 1958-1960 models that preceded them. Their classically minimalist styling would influence automotive designers for the rest of the 1960s. The example offered here has had only three owners from new and wears a pair of California black license plates. The first owner was reportedly a Hollywood movie studio executive, who is said to have maintained the car for use by his out-of-town guests. Originally white, the Lincoln was painted a metallic green shade after having been stripped to bare metal. The seller has owned this rare convertible since 1999 and a number of receipts relating to its restoration and maintenance accompany it. A custom-made parade seat, designed to protect the soft-top cover panel, is also included.
