Thus, the E-Type was born; one of Jaguar's longest-running and most revered models. Much of the E-Type’s success was owed to the racing D-Type and, indeed, it would be one of the last great sports cars developed directly from a successful competition ancestor. Just as in the D-Type, a monocoque tub formed the main body and chassis structure while a tubular space frame extended forwards to support the engine. Offered initially in 3.8 litre form, the E-Type was uprated to a 4.2 litre variant for the later cars. One of the most elegant and efficient shapes ever to grace a motor car. Delivered new in 1963, this wonderful example is finished in the very elegant colour combination of metallic black over a grey leather interior and has recently been the subject of a comprehensive restoration at a cost of circa £50,000. Completed by marque specialists, the mechanics were undertaken by Rushton Engineering Ltd and included an extensive rebuild of the steering system, brake system and the front and rear suspension. The engine was dismantled and inspected and was confirmed to have recently been rebuilt to a high standard, while the gearbox was rebuilt and a new clutch fitted. Converted to right hand drive during the restoration the E-Type was also treated to many desirable upgrades including new Weber carburettors and a new radiator which replaced the old unit. The body, interior and paint work were also completed by Jaguar Specialists and included a full bare metal respray, renovation of the brightwork, a complete interior retrim, a new wiring loom and electrical components, instruments overhauled and new chrome wire wheels. The E-Type consequently presents fabulously and sounds fantastic when on song. Complete with a history file detailing the restoration, many sundry invoices and the current UK V5C registration document. The perfect candidate for those long-distance road trips or that summer trip to the south of France.
