The Alfa Romeo Giulietta was first introduced at the 1954 Turin Motor Show. The pretty little coupé was powered by the jewel like all alloy 1290cc twin overhead cam engine that incorporated hemispherical combustion chambers and domed pistons. The engine was mated to an alloy cased four speed gearbox. The car took the motoring press by storm as the performance and styling was a revelation for a production car in 1954. In 1955 the Berlina (saloon) was introduced with similar mechanical specifications. These early models were known as 750 series (not aligned with engine size) and in 1960 the 101 series was introduced. The new series of the Giulietta incorporated many upgrades particularly to the styling and trim details. Giulietta production in coupé, spider and berlina forms spanned from 1954 to 1965. The Berlina Ti models (Turismo Internazionale) were born in 1957 and were the luxury model of the range. On offer today we have a very rare factory right hand drive Giulietta Ti. This is a well known Giulietta that has featured in many books and magazine articles and is believed to be one of only a handful of surviving right hand drive cars built. The car is offered in excellent original condition and is currently fitted with a later Alfa Romeo 1600 Veloce specification engine that includes twin Weber carburettors, a five speed floor change gearbox and a custom made exhaust system. These modifications are understood to have been carried out some time ago ; in fact, within the history file there is mention of the 1600 engine in 1991 with the mileage quoted at 59000 miles; the mileage now stands at approximately 62400 miles so therefore it may be deduced that only 2,500 miles have been covered in the past 21 years. A set of Koni Yellow shock absorbers are fitted that improve handling and reduce body roll. A Kenlow fan is fitted to aid cooling if required. The larger than standard engine and gearbox makes this Giulietta very tractable and usable and can easily keep pace with modern traffic. Make no mistake; these little Alfa Berlinas are a revelation in performance and usability. The bright work is very good and the interior looks and feels original which is a feature of this Alfa. The steering wheel is chunky and sits behind the facia with the rev counter (a feature of the Ti) incorporated within the instrument cluster; all the instruments appear to work with excellent oil pressure displayed. There is a comprehensive history file as well as a workshop manual and a 'Glen's Repair and Tune Up' book also included. Within the file it is noted that a new clutch was fitted at 61000 miles. The Giulietta sits on a set of Michelin tyres, correct for the period. Currently in road trim this car may be converted to run in the ever popular HRDC Touring Greats race series or the 1963 Touring Car race series. It may also be eligible for the Goodwood Revival St Marys Trophy race. With an MoT certificate valid until the 19 th September 2012 and Historic road fund licence valid to the end of the same month, whatever the lucky new owner chooses to do with this Alfa Romeo, it may be driven and enjoyed straight away.
