It sold as the Mercedes-Benz 190 through to 1961 with this car built in the last year of production where some 8,864 were built with a small fraction being righthand drive examples. This charming example was first registered in the UK on 15 th May 1961 and retains its original registration number. It has had four keepers in total with the current vendor purchasing the car in 2013. The previous owner, Ronald Sweeney, acquired the car in 2009 with the prior owner, a Dr. Anton Gilbert Sebastianpillai of Surbiton, Surrey buying the car on 6 th March 1999 with the first owner, A.A. Jones keeping the car from new until 1999, a total of some 38 years. Included in the file are a sheath of bills and invoices from its time in Surbiton and further bills are included from Mercedes-Benz main dealer Malaya in Crawley, West Sussex, from the late 1990s and bills from main dealer Mercedes-Benz Chester in 2011. The car was restored prior to 2014 as it was featured in the June 2014 issue of Gazette, the official Mercedes-Benz Club magazine, a copy of which is included in the cars history file. The article reports that the car was in quite good condition before work commenced and confirmed it was rare to find one in such good condition. The wings and other parts were removed and repaired, not replaced, and any slight rust was dealt with and re-sprayed in Himalayan grey metallic which is in very good condition throughout. Many of the seals were replaced as well as the rubbers around the doors and boot lid. The interior was good and was left as is and is in very good condition with the seats in dark red with grey floor mats and Bakerlite interior door cappings. The headlining, chromeworks are all in very good condition. The boot boasts a full size spare along with a jack. Supplied with two sets of original keys, it also comes with its original plastic wallet and original owners manual as well as its original service book. Interestingly, the service booklet has handwritten service interval notes from 1961, believed to be carried out by the first owner, Mr. Jones until 2009 where subsequent owners added notes through to 2012. In total, some 30 service records and mileage have been recorded each time. Further documents include 17 MoT test certificates with the oldest dating back to 1978 showing 66,843 miles and a current item valid until June 2018 with no advisories showing 71,184 miles. A further two owners workshop manuals complete the history file. A rare and charming car, this 190 Ponton is in fantastic condition and drives well. With a detailed history file and low ownership history, this car is highly usable and practical with ample boot space for luggage; this Mercedes-Benz can be enjoyed by the whole family.
