1961 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster (Flat-floor) Lot Number327 Registration5755 RW Chassis Number850121 Engine NumberR1471-9 Odometer reading102,816 miles Estimate£138,000 - £150,000 ResultSold - £117,500 Print details Send this to a friend 2 more images Genuine UK supplied right hand drive example Matching numbers Owned within the same family since 1975 Introduced in 3.8 litre form in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type caused a sensation when it appeared with instantly classic lines and 150mph top speed. While, inevitably, the car's stupendous straight-line performance and gorgeous looks grabbed the headlines, there was a lot more to the E-Type beneath the skin. The newcomer's design owed much to that of the racing D-Type and, indeed, the E-Type would be one of the last great sports cars developed directly from a successful competition ancestor. Just as in the D-Type, a monocoque tub formed the main body/chassis structure while a tubular space frame extended forwards to support the engine. The latter was the same 3.8-litre, triple-carburettor, 'S' unit first offered as an option on the preceding XK150. With a claimed 265 horsepower on tap, the E-Type's performance did not disappoint. Firstly, because it weighed around 500lb less than the XK150 and secondly, because aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer used experience gained with the D-Type to create one of the most elegant and efficient shapes ever to grace a motor car. This fabulous Jaguar is the rare and desirable ‘flat-floor’ model and has been extremely well looked after throughout its 59 years on the road. Finished in Carmen Red with black interior, this is a matching numbers example that is largely original condition. The owner used the car on a regular basis although never in inclement weather it should be added. Turn the key, press the button and this E-Type bursts into life. The engine sounds superb and has excellent oil pressure. With good panel gaps and described as driving as good as she looks, this genuine UK supplied right hand drive example is as clean underneath as she is on top. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a number of invoices, this 3.8 litre ‘flat-floor’ is sure to appeal to collectors and investors alike. Owned by the same family since 1975 this Jaguar is supplied with a V5C registration document together with a number of invoices, a 3.8 litre ‘flat-floor’ E-Type as good as this is sure to appeal to collectors and investors alike.
