From being chiefly engaged in the supply of car bodies to Panhard, Simca and Ford France, Facel branched out into automobile manufacture in its own right in 1954 with the launch of the supremely elegant Vega coupé at the Paris Salon. An improved model, the HK500, appeared in 1957. Maximum power was now around 360bhp courtesy of the latest, 5.9-litre version of Chrysler's 'Hemi' V8 and top speed rose to around 140mph (225km/h). Power steering became an option and Dunlop disc brakes were adopted as standard equipment in 1960. Capable of effortless and virtually silent 120mph cruising, the HK500 possessed 'a brilliant combination of good comfort and quite exceptional roadholding' according to The Motor. HK 500 production amounted to only 500-or-so units between 1958 and 1961 and today this rare Franco-American Grand Routier is highly sought after. This HK500 was exported to the USA where it is known to have had three owners: a Mr. Bell until 1990 then Francois Castaing (a member of l'Amicale Facel Vega) who lived in the USA and worked for Chrysler. It then went to Arnaud Bouthenet, who brought the car back to France and sold it to the current vendor circa 2007, since when it has been used sparingly, hence the sale. Completed restored in the 1990s (exact date unknown) the car is finished in silver metallic with beige Connolly leather interior, while other noteworthy features include automatic transmission, power assisted steering and Borrani wire wheels. Un modèle amélioré, la HK500 apparut en 1957. La puissance maximale était d'environ 360 cv grâce au plus récent moteur Chrysler V8 'Hémi' et la vitesse maximale atteignait environ 195 km/h. La direction assistée fut offerte en option et des freins à disques Dunlop furent standardisés en 1960. Capable de croiser sans effort et sans bruit à 190 km/h, la HK500 offrait 'une brillante combinaison de grand confort et d'une tenue de route assez exceptionnelle' d'après The Motor. La production de la HK500 s'éleva à environ 500 unités entre 1958 et 1961 et, de nos jours, cette rare grande routière franco-américaine est très recherchée. Cette HK500 fut exportée aux Etats-Unis où elle eut trois propriétaires connus : M. Bell jusqu'en 1990 puis François Castaing (membre de l'Amicale Facel) qui résidait aux USA et travaillait chez Chrysler. Elle passa aux mains de M. Arnaud Bouthenet qui la ramena en France et la vendit au vendeur actuel vers 2007. Elle fut alors peu utilisée ce qui a motivé sa mise en vente. Totalement restaurée dans les années 1990 (la date précise est inconnue), la voiture est peinte en argent métallisé avec intérieur en cuir Connolly beige. Elle est équipée d'une boîte automatique, d'une direction assistée et de roues fils Borrani. Carte grise française.
