Beschreibung:

Developed by the same basic team that created the Volkswagen Beetle, the Porsche 356 essentially became the people's sports car, relatively affordable and offering commendable performance from its rear-mounted, air-cooled, horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine. Drive was through a four-speed transaxle and rear suspension was by swing axles. First reaching the public in 1949 with an 1,100cc engine and a crash gearbox, the 356 was developed through the 1950s with bigger engines, improved brakes and a synchromesh transmission. For 1959, Porsche introduced the 356B variant. Styling updates improved the look of the car while retaining an unmistakably Porsche character. In standard tune, the 1,582cc engine generated 60 hp while the 1600S was good for 75hp and predictably, the Super 90 was rated at 90hp. These engines were available in four body styles: coupe, hardtop coupe, cabriolet and roadster. This Cabriolet, complete with hard top, was delivered on March 17, 1960 to a Mrs. Roberta Henderson of Alabama; the original bill of sale is included. The car then passed to a Captain John Rankin of Texas in 1972, remaining in his ownership until 1985 when it was acquired by a Brady Owen of Florida. The car passed through several hands until being acquired by the vendor in 2009, who commenced a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration, fully documented with receipts, to restore the car to its original glory. All major components have been overhauled or replaced, including a rebuilt transaxle, brakes, wheel cylinders, suspension bushings, shocks, and much more. The engine, a 1750cc unit, fitted with remanufactured Solex PII and 912 heads, was built by Porsche engine specialists Morton Competition of Connecticut. Cosmetically, the body was taken to bare metal and resprayed in the correct, original ivory paint code #R738. All chrome bits were re-chromed with the exception of the door handles, which were replaced with new units. The interior finishes were similarly restored to complete the driving experience. Period accessories such as a wood Les Lester steering wheel, period correct crème and blue suitcase, and a Lutz luggage rack complete the package, making this an excellent tour vehicle. Offered with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as well as an extensive file of receipts and documentation dating back to 1960, this is a 356 that can be purchased with confidence and enjoyed for many, many years to come.
