Although having a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 was radically modernised. A one piece windscreen replaced the split screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors. The bonnet was widened, opened down to the wings and, on the roadster, the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make the bonnet longer. In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard was replaced by one trimmed in leather and chrome. On the early drophead coupés, an aluminium centre dash panel with an 'X' pattern engraving was fitted which looked similar to the early 3.8 litre, E-Type, whilst thinner doors gave more interior space. The four-wheel Dunlop 12" disc brakes appeared for the first time although it was theoretically possible to order a car with drums and either wire wheels or disc wheels could be specified. Suspension and chassis were very similar to that on the XK140. These were high performance, well-appointed sports touring cars capable of 137mph and 0-60 in 7.8 seconds and accomplished long distances with alacrity. This excellent, matching numbers, righthand drive XK150 fixedhead coupé has been the subject of a complete rebuild and up-grade. Works carried out included replacing the brake master cylinder, brake servo and fitting Cooper Craft callipers and discs, new steering rack, rear springs, re-wired, new alternator, instrument overhaul and other electrical items replaced. The car has been up-graded with electric power steering, 72 spoke wheels, spin-off oil filter, electronic 123 ignition, alloy header tank, Kenlowe fan, stainless steel exhaust, Koni shock absorbers and new clutch, master and slave cylinders. It has also recently been re-painted in gunmetal grey then fitted with a new windscreen and trims, new rubbers and seals, many new chrome items and a new mascot. The red interior has been refurbished and a new wooden steering wheel fitted. This XK150 is supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in March 2016, a file with invoices for the work carried out and a Jaguar Heritage certificate. These XK150's are very usable and their time is approaching, it will be the prudent investor that has one or two of these tucked away.
