Among all Ferrari sport cars, the ones powered by the legendary 250 V12 Colombo engine are the most sought after. This engine was so successful in so many competitions that one can say it is actually the foundation of the worldwide reputation of the marque. The Ferrari 250 Colombo dynasty includes some of the most famous cars ever made: 250 Testa Rossa, 250 GTO, 250 SWB, Spyder California, 250 GT Berlinetta “Tour de France”, and 250 P (Le Mans 1963 winner) among a few others. The Pinin Farina (Pininfarina from 1959) bodied 250GT Coupé belongs to this legendary breed: with its 3 litre V12 engine and its sleek, timeless Italian style, this Granturismo was one of the most desirable cars of its time: it reached a record breaking – for the period – figure of 351 examples sold, due to the unique combination of the most successful competition engine with one of the very best Carrozzeria’s talent. Specialists estimate that less than a hundred 250GT Pininfarina coupés are still in existence today. The car for sale, a 1959 model, was delivered to Germany in February that year but returned to Italy in the 1980s where it has been used for historic racing by the present owner, a longstanding collector. It probably helped that the car was originally supplied with the 128C evolution of the 250 engine, developing a higher than average 235bhp when it left the factory. The mechanical restoration was entrusted to renowned Ferrari specialists Autofficina Sauro in Bologna and the engine was totally cleaned and re-assembled for the purpose of using the car in competition. It subsequently won its class in road events including the San Remo Rally and Targa Florio. The Rosso Corsa paintwork is now showing some age, as well as the interior, which has been partially stripped for racing. The engine was checked over in October 2004 and found to be in good order. The car is not currently registered. This is a good opportunity to acquire one of the most famous series of cars made by Ferrari, since all other 250 Colombo powered two-seater Ferrari models are now much more expensive, if not totally unaffordable like the 250 GTO. This Pininfarina Coupé would suit either an aspiring historic racer or a collector searching for a car which can be cosmetically improved over time. Elle retourne en Italie au début des années 80 où elle est utilisée dans des courses historiques par l’actuel propriétaire, un collectionneur de longue date. Il fut certainement bien avantagé par l’évolution 128C du moteur 250, développant 235 ch. lorsqu’elle sortit d’usine. La restauration mécanique fut entreprise par le spécialiste Ferrari de renom, Sauro à Bologne et le moteur fut totalement nettoyé et ré-assemblé afin de pouvoir disputer des compétitions. Elle gagna par la suite dans sa classe des courses sur route comme le rallye de San Remo et la Targa Florio. La peinture, traditionnellement Rosso Corsa, montre maintenant les signes du temps, tout comme l’intérieur, qui a été allégé pour les courses. Le moteur fut révisé en octobre 2004 et se trouve en bon état. La voiture n’est pas actuellement immatriculée. C’est une excellente opportunité d’acquérir un des exemplaires d’une des plus fameuses séries fabriquées par Ferrari, sachant que les autres Ferrari deux places motorisées par le 250 Colombo sont maintenant hors de prix, sans parler d’une 250 GTO. Ce coupé Pininfarina serait parfait pour un pilote de courses historiques ou pour un collectionneur recherchant un véhicule qu’il pourra améliorer à long terme.
