Beschreibung:

1959 AUSTIN-HEALEY SPRITE TWO SEATER SPORTS Registration No. 5637 EV Chassis No. AN 5-23038 Engine No. 9C-UH 22796 Leaf green with green interior. Engine: four-cylinder pushrod overhead valves, 948cc, twin SU carburettors, 42.5bhp at 5000rpm; Gearbox: four speed manual, synchromesh on top three ratios; Suspension: independent front by wishbone and coil spring, rear live axle with quarter-elliptic leaf springs and control arms; Brakes: hydraulically operated drums all round. Right hand drive. The Austin Healey Sprite of 1958 was an inspired blend of selected mechanical components from successful production cars in a compact bodyshell just big enough to provide comfortable accommodation for two. It was a new type of small sports car, responsive, accelerative, and its familiar perky outline with unique 'frogeye' headlamps soon became familiar all over the world. Today the Sprite has cult status in the classic car world, with the early and increasingly rare Mk I version eagerly sought by collectors. This very presentable low mileage early Sprite was the subject between 1990 and 1994 of a comprehensive restoration for a total cost of £10,500 (including basic cost of the car). A photographic record of the work carried out was compiled and will be available to the purchaser. During the restoration great pains were taken to retain originality. The restored engine is the correct 948cc type and has been modified to accept lead-free petrol. There is a rebuilt gearbox and radiator. The body shell also received considerable attention whilst the paintwork is of the correct leaf green hue. The car has the original buff logbook as well as V5 document and MoT until September and there is a file of correspondence with previous owners. In 1989 an owner declared the Sprite's total mileage to be 31,000; the speedometer now reads 34,994. Sprites restored to this quality and degree of originality are now very rare and this is beautifully presented. On a test drive it was a true delight, the eager 948cc engine emitting a sporty exhaust note right through the rev range and the gears selected positively. The brakes too are sound and all the instrumentation functions. It has a hood, sidescreens and tonneau cover. A cracking example of a much loved and popular sports car.
