The Healey Frogeye was conceived by Donald Healey and his son Geoffrey, but after Donald's death it was taken through to production by Geoffrey Healey and Keith Brading of the Frogeye Car Company in the Isle of White. The Healey Consultancy, which owns the trade mark 'Healey', licensed the name to the car. Please note that Rover Group owns 'Austin Healey' and has no copyright on the name 'Healey'. We all remember the Healey Silverstone, Jensen Healey, Nash Healey and Alvis Healey. This is just another Healey! Manufactured in the Isle of White, these cars were available as either a restoration assembly or as a complete car. Both options were based on the running gear of a Sprite or Midget; Geoffrey never differentiated between the two as in his eyes the Midget was really just a Mk. II Sprite with an MG badge. The very last cars gained Limited Type Approval and were powered by the K Series engine and were registered as new cars. From the outset, and due to Geoffrey's involvement, the Austin Healey Owners Club accepted the car as a Healey Frogeye and it was eligible for all the clubs activity including motorsport. Check the results today and you will find 50% of the leader boards feature these Island Frogs. A 1959 Austin Healey Frogeye Sprite was purchased by the vendor in about 1990 with a view to restoring it back to its original specifications; upon starting it however, the bodywork was found to be too rusty to restore. Not wanting to give up on the project, the vendor purchased the Healey Frogeye on offer today, construction of which had already been started using the 1275cc engine and front subframe from an MG Midget Mk.III. Using parts and the identity from the 1959 Austin Healey, the car was completed in 1992 and issued with a date related registration number. After very little use the vendor decided to give the car to his son and set about restoring the car again, completing it in 2010 after being repainted in British Racing Green, fitted with a five speed Frontline gearbox, servo brakes, electronic ignition, a new mohair roof, side screens and tonneau cover. This Healy Frogeye comes complete with an original Frogeye hard top which requires minor restoration, a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in May 2013, the original log books and hand book from the Austin Healey, photographs of the original car, a file of bills relating to the rebuilds and information about the Healey Frogeye. This is a fun, very usable, small, British sports car that requires minimal maintenance to keep in tip-top condition.
