Après une refonte en profondeur de sa gamme en 1957, Oldsmobile se voulait également résolument haut de gamme, et à ce titre, dans l'offre de General Motors pour le millésime 1958, la marque se dégageait nettement du lot, en particulier grâce à cette Super 88 dont l'abondance de chromes la faisait surnommer " Chromesmobile ". Oooooh ! Quelle réalisation ! Une pièce d'orfèvrerie, brillant de mille feux chromés…Que pouvait-on donc espérer de mieux comme base pour une customisation en règle ? En effet, cette Oldsmobile Super 88 a été réalisée par John d'Agostino, le fameux " customiser ", reconnu mondialement comme une référence dans cet art. Ce dernier a jeté son dévolu sur ce modèle du millésime 1958, construit en Californie, en décidant bien sûr de lui apporter sa touche personnelle. Deux éléments visuels sautent rapidement aux yeux : le toit a été rabaissé (top-chopé...) de 3,5 pouces et une grille de calandre de Buick 1959 vient en lieu et place de celle d'origine, encastrée dans le pare-chocs Oldsmobile. Afin de rendre hommage au 100ème anniversaire (Golden Anniversary) de General Motors les ateliers Kustom Kars of California peignent l'auto en couleur or nacré, et l'habitacle se voit équipé d'une sellerie en cuir, assortie à la carrosserie, elle même en trois tons nacrés. Les pneus à flancs blancs sont montés sur des roues chromées, la suspension à air garantissant un comportement agréable en mode " cruising ". La voiture a démarré en 2008 une tournée de concours, glanant notamment à cette occasion un succès remarqué lors du " George Barris Kustom d'Elegance ".
