1956 JAGUAR XK140 SE OTS ROADSTER Chassis No. S812197 Engine No. G702085 White with red leather interior, white piping and sand top Engine: six cylinder, twin overhead camshafts, 3,442cc, 190bhp at 5,500rpm; Gearbox: four-speed manual; Suspension: front, independent, rear, semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: four wheel drum. Left hand drive. October 1954 saw the introduction of the XK140 with major changes in appearance and engineering to the model. The classic lines were retained but were now protected by sturdier bumpers and a tougher grill. A chrome strip ran down the length of the hood, and another on the rear trunk lid drew attention to the medallion in the middle proclaiming the Le Mans wins of the marque. The rear bumper wrapped around the fenders and sported overriders. Inside, the front seat and dashboard remained the same, but with considerably more legroom than the XK120 because the engine block was moved forward on the chassis. There was also space behind the front seat. Moving the engine forward led to better straight line stability, and with the adoption of the Alford and Alder rack-and-pinion steering came a much more direct response to the wheel. The Special Equipment models designated "SE", like the car represented here, were fitted with wire wheels and Lucas FT576 fog lamps mounted above the front bumper, numerous other minor body details and a different model of 1¾in SU carburetor. Home market SE cars included a C-Type head in their specification, but this was not the case for all export cars, as on this car. The stunning example presented here is confirmed by its accompanying heritage certificate as having been built on March 9, 1956 and dispatched later on March 16. The first documented owner was Mr. Robert J. Handel Braver of East Overland, Ohio who, it is recorded took ownership on July 10, 1956. Originally delivered in black with red interior and a sand top, the heritage certificate also notes the "less C-type head" in the additional notes. Much of the early history for this XK140 SE is unknown until it came into the possession of its now current owner. It was at this point, in 2003, where the car was turned over to the very capable and noted hands of Jeff Snyder of Jeff's Resurrections in Taylor, Texas. Jeff's primary area of restoration is Jaguars and has a well documented history of completing some of the best scoring work in the JCNA fraternity. A major frame-on restoration was completed and photo documented and when completed the results did not disappoint. Recent awards include the 2003 JCNA Regional Concours Champion Class D-01 Driven Division, 2004 and 2005 JCNA Overall North American Concours Champion Class D-01 Driven Division. Completed with the original tonneau cover, fully restored side curtains and color matching bag, and a replacement tool kit from Welsh Enterprises valued at $1,600 - this stunning example is a proven show winner attesting to the fine and detailed restoration.
