*3.4-liter straight six *210hp *'Barn discovery' recently extracted from 20 years of storage *In running condition *Desirable MC specification The Jaguar XK-140, produced from late 1954 into 1957, generally continued the beautiful styling and impressive performance of the gutsy race-bred XK-120 that preceded it—albeit with a bit more civility added into the mix. XK-140 models included an Open Two-Seater (OTC) roadster, cabriolet-type Drophead Coupé (DHC), and Fixed-Head Coupe (FHC), as represented here. The sweeping lines of the Fixed-Head-Coupé, a style first introduced to the XK-120 line for 1951, are reminiscent of some classic high-performance European Coupés from the late 1930s. Jaguar designers moved the DOHC 3.5L inline 6-cylinder engine forward in the XK chassis for the new model. The revised placement permitted more legroom in the cockpit, even as the previously used dashboard and seating locations were retained. For the first time, a bit of open space was also provided behind the front seat. A Special Equipment performance package was created for the XK-140 and examples so equipped, such as the Fixed Head Coupé here offered, were designated MC models. The MC engine featured a higher-compression "C-type" cylinder head and had a dual exhaust system. The MC further included a pair of Lucas FT576 fog lamps, which were mounted above the front bumper...a subtle tip-off to the 210hp special performance engine lurking under the bonnet. Exhibiting a pleasingly vintage patina, the offered left-hand drive XK-140 FHC is a genuine MC model, authenticated by its accompanying manufacturer's Heritage Certificate. The certification reveals the XK-140, now painted maroon with a black interior, was original finished in Pearl Grey, with dark blue interior piped in grey. The car's first owner apparently resided in Corpus Christi, Texas. Having recently emerged from more than 20 years of dry collector storage, the XK-140 MC FHC has recently been revived and is expected to run at the sale, but will still require full servicing to make it roadworthy. The car is mostly complete and is fitted with Jaguar chrome wire wheels. The interior is essentially serviceable as-is. A period-correct Blaupunkt push-button AM radio resides in the dash. The wood dashboard and interior trim is original, with minor and readily repairable damage evident on the driver's side. A great candidate for a Concours-level restoration, this rare MC model XK-140 might also represent an extraordinary opportunity for the Jaguar connoisseur wishing to obtain their first vintage edition. The XK-140 FHC is presented with a California title.
