La première des nouvelles Alfa Romeo d'après guerre apparut en 1950. Conçue par le Dr Orazio Satta Puglia et destinée à être produite en grande série, la 1900 fut la première Alfa à coque autoportante et, fidèle à l'héritage sportif de la marque, elle était propulsée par un moteur à deux arbres à cames en tête. Ce groupe à quatre cylindres déplaçait 1 884 cm3 et délivrait 90 ch, puissance suffisante pour emmener la voiture à 150 km/h. Malgré ses allures de bonne berline familiale moyenne, la 1900 révéla un caractère sportif qui n'était pas limité au type de son moteur car ses conducteurs profitaient d'une suspension avant indépendante par ressorts hélicoïdaux et triangles superposés et d'un essieu arrière rigide oscillant très bien guidé. Personne ne s'étonna par conséquent lorsque le caractère sportif de la 1900 fut mis en valeur par deux variantes à haute performance. Lancée en 1951, la 1900 Sprint apparut carrossée par Pinin Farina (pour le cabriolet) et Touring (pour le coupé), les deux modèles étant dotés du moteur de 100 cv de la berline sport 1900 TI. Modèle très influent, la Sprint de Touring était conçue pour offrir une capacité de voiture familiale dans un coupé sport deux portes et sa petite calandre verticale en cœur encadré par deux grilles horizontales allait devenir le visage caractéristique des Alfa ultérieures. La série 2 arriva peu après, au début de 1954 : le dessin avait été légèrement retouché et amélioré sous la forme de la Super Sprint à moteur de 1 975 cm3 et 115 cv associé à une boîte à cinq rapports. Présentée dans un état remarquable, cette Sprint série 2 est peinte en deux tons de bleu avec intérieur assorti d'une teinte correcte pour l'époque et le sélecteur de vitesse est au plancher. La voiture est accompagnée de son titre de circulation américain de l'Etat de Floride. Alfa Romeo's first all-new offering of the post-war period arrived in 1950. Designed by Dr Orazio Satta Puliga and intended for volume production, the 1900 was the first Alfa to employ unitary construction and - in keeping with the company's sporting heritage - was powered by a twin-overhead-camshaft engine. A four-cylinder unit, the latter displaced 1,884cc and produced 90bhp, an output sufficient to propel the four-door saloon to 93mph. Although ostensibly a humble family conveyance, the 1900 was endowed with sporting credentials which extended beyond its type of power unit, owners enjoying the benefits of wishbone and coil spring independent front suspension and an exceptionally well located live rear axle. It should have surprised nobody therefore, when the 1900's potential was realised in the form of two high performance derivatives. Launched in 1951, the 1900 Sprint featured bodywork by Pinin Farina (cabriolet) and Touring (coupé), both models utilising the 100bhp engine of the 1900TI sports saloon. An immensely influential design, Touring's Sprint was designed to offer family-sized accommodation in a two-door sports coupé format and its heart-shaped vertical grille with flanking horizontal intakes would become an Alfa trademark on later models. Shortly after the Series 2 arrived in early 1954, the model was mildly restyled and upgraded as the Super Sprint, gaining a 1,975cc, 115bhp engine and five-speed gearbox. Presented in quite superb condition, this 2nd Series Sprint is finished in two-tone blue with matching period-correct interior and has the floor-mounted gearshift. The car is offered with State of Florida Certificate of Title.
