1940 PACKARD ONE-TEN CLUB COUPE Chassis No. 1385-4957 Engine No. 34984 Black with tan fabric interior Engine: L-head, six cylinder, in-line, 245ci, 100bhp at 3,200rpm; Gearbox: three speed selective synchromesh system, column-mounted gearshift controls; Suspension: front, independent coil springs, rear, solid axle semi-elliptical leaf springs; Brakes: four wheel hydraulic drums. Left hand drive. In August 1939, the Packard Motor Company introduced the One-Ten, a new designation replacing the 'Six', which was a way to be consistent with the eight cylinder One-Twenty example introduced in January of 1935. These two junior models became Packard's bread and butter during the Depression years, with advertising greatly focused around their low prices. The 1940 models brought a new look and many considered them beauties. The Packard Company enthusiastically advertised the new styling "as distinctive as only Packard can make it. The beauty of the narrower, tapered radiator of the trim cooling grilles and smart new fender lamps and of the sparkling new louvers on the longer hood." Along with the most obvious change of the narrower Packard radiator, the One-Ten had sealed-beam headlights set directly onto the fenders. Although being five inches shorter at 122in, the frame of the One-Ten borrowed many of the One-Twenty components, such as the selective synchromesh transmission, with a Warner Gear overdrive option called EconoDrive, Packard's Safe-T-fleX independent front suspension, and four wheel hydraulic brakes. Handishift, the column-mounted gearshift lever located under the steering wheel, was carried over from 1939 and also shared with the One-Twenty. The club coupe and the convertible coupe also shared the fold-down, rear jump seats that could be concealed for additional luggage space. It was no surprise that in 1940 the One-Ten would go on to outsell the One-Twenty by better than two to one. This Packard One-Ten was delivered new by Packard of Westchester County, White Plains, New York. The windows and body remain in overall good condition however there are visible signs of wear such as scratches and pitting on the fenders and bumpers. The trunk does not close securely due to a misaligned bumper, however the other doors close well. The headlights and fenders have been retouched with paint and the carpeting and seat covers need replacing. Not run in many years, this Packard is a good restoration candidate. WITHOUT RESERVE
