Central Avenue was the bustling commercial district for the African American community in Los Angles, often affectionately referred to as "the Beale Street of the West." Includes a host of advertisements from a variety of Black-owned businesses. The guide also includes a "Map of Points of Interest" published by the Los Angeles Railway, several ads for actors with headshots and resumes including Ernest Whitman (1893-1954), Jesse Graves (1879-1949), Thaddeus Jones (1874-1960), choral arranger Hall Johnson (1888-1970), and Laura Bowman (1881-1957). Very scarce, only one copy located at UCLA. No copies have appeared on the market.
